BUFFALO BAYOU RESILIENT HOUSING

Following Hurricane Harvey, I set out to develop a conceptual medium density resilient housing plan as part of an environmental design studio. The housing block was designed to allow the movement of water through and around the structure without damaging homes. The individual units were made to have private outdoor spaces on two levels - an upper deck with views outside of the units walls, and a ground level courtyard to allow families to have outdoor spaces much like one would have in a low density area. The goal of the project, outside of building resilient and durable housing, was to show the dichotomy of public versus private space, and the introduction of structures while maintaining and working in harmony with the natural environment.
